TABBY CAT
There sat a tabby cat carefully watching,
sleek tail swishing and narrowed eyes gleaming.
“Help me,” the little leaf begged.
“Of course, of course.
You see over there, that path?
Follow it due north.
Let the wind carry you along, it means you no harm.
You’ll soon be home.”
WIND
“Don’t go, don’t go,
I’m not so bad, you see.
I just want a friend, someone to play
with me.
The sky feels far too plain when there’s just clouds.
No birds, no leaves, not a single crowd.
Stay with me, and we can fly,
together we’ll twirl, oh, so high!”
CALM
The path was now clear as all rushed away,
none left but the little leaf, alone
and frayed.
Sylvan Historian (2024)
